With the return of the 992 and the debut of the 327, New Balance has pushed aside many an adjacent 9XX staple, including the equally notable and often MiE constructed 991 silhouette. But, as a few leaks would attest, the brand is thankfully shifting focus as they’re soon to bring back the classic silhouette in a few full leather make-ups and this vibrantly structured colorway.
A mosaic of different materials, the 991 pictured here is far distinct from the drab greys the Boston institution is notable for. Mudguards, though typically subdued relative to the rest of the upper, stick out like a sore thumb in their texture as its weave seems almost ballistic throughout. The heel also stands apart, though it prefers to contrast the suede of the eye stay and toe cap by way of a rugged swatch that’s both tumbled and faded across the entirety of the counter. Elsewhere, bright hues of pink, dark blue, teal, and yellow accent in seldom, dressing the tongue, branding, cushioning, and the like for a kit puzzled together with seemingly random parts.
Grab an early look at these here and expect a release to arrive at select retailers as well as newbalance.com soon.
In other news, the Nike Air Max 90 Infrared is finally returning.
